Followers and Ambassadors

Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditations of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

I Corinthians 11:1 “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ”

The Apostle Paul was truly an example to be followed because he was a genuine Christ follower. To be a true Christ follower, he had to become a servant—-a servant humble enough to say, “Follow me because I’m following Christ; don’t just follow me.”

We set an example by our actions, speech, concern for others, level of love for others, and attire. The world looks at us, watches us, and listens to us. It examines us to see if we’re different. We are different, just as Christ was and is different. In order to be leaders, we must be servants. John chapter 13 gives the account of Jesus washing the disciples feet and in verses 15-17, Jesus says He set an example for us. (“For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verse 15)

We are not only followers and examples of Jesus but we are also ambassadors for Christ. II Corinthians 5:20a “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ——-“. One dictionary says that an ambassador is “a high-ranking diplomatic representative of one country to another country.”

As ambassadors for Christ, we represent Him wherever we are and in whatever situation we find ourselves.

Some time ago, my husband and I were in the check-out line at Wal-mart. Ahead of us was a lady about 30 years old who was having difficulty finding her debit card. She seemed to be distraught and very nervous. She turned in our direction and apologized, we smiled assuring her that we were in no hurry. We stood patiently waiting as she searched her purse and finally found the card and completed her transaction and went on her way.

There is a McDonald’s in our Wal-mart so we stopped in for ice cream. After we were seated, I noticed the same lady at another table. It wasn’t long before she came over and said she thought we might be Christians, and would we pray with her. We invited her to sit with us and share her story.

She was to go to a court hearing later that day about a child that might be placed in an abusive situation. We weren’t sure if the child was hers or a friend or relative, in any case we prayed for intervention and protection for the child and encouraged her to trust the Lord. We do not know what happened to her or the child, we only know we were in the right place at the right time and obeyed the Spirit.

Let us remember as followers of Jesus we are His representatives, His ambassadors to those around us. By His grace may we be the best ambassador for Jesus that we can be.

Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

I Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
