Follow The Leader

Do you remember playing “Follow The Leader” as a child?  A group would pick a leader and then follow him/her where they went and do what they did.  Would you be surprised to know that is exactly how we get to heaven?  We follow a leader.

We don’t usually think of getting to heaven by following a leader but that is what is required.  We can’t get there otherwise.  Who are we to follow?  Paul named our leader writing,  “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  Hebrews 12:2

The phrase “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” tell us of our leader and how we are to follow Him.  Christians are to remain looking to Jesus.  The word looking means to keep our eyes on; to gaze.  To look on anyone else to guide us by faith to heaven is to lose the way.

The term author means a chief leader; a captain. Jesus Christ is our Leader in the way of faith.  Millions of people are following false and deceptive leaders such as the Pope, Mohammed, Dalai Lama, Buddha and so on.  God has appointed  no one else to lead us to Him except Jesus Christ.  Jesus declared Himself to be the way, the truth, and the life…”  John 14:6

Jesus is not only the author of our faith but he is also the finisher.  How important this is.  The word finisher denotes perfection or completeness.  The way of faith rooted in Jesus Christ is complete.  Jesus did it all leaving nothing for mankind to perform except to accept Him.  All religions go astray on this issue in that they require man to do good works in order to gain heaven.  CAN’T BE DONE.

How thrilled and thankful Christians can be knowing that Jesus began and finished our way to heaven.  We get there in Him not in ourselves.  God forbid that any of us ever be tempted by another way to heaven because THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.  It’s by Jesus Christ or no way!  PRAISE GOD!
