The Word

2Timothy  3:16  All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching,  For reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; Joshua . 1:8  “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but You shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do According to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

I took the bible Jeff gave me and began to read it, you notice I said read it, not study it, that would come later. We had not started attending a church so I was on my own. The NIV translation sure was easier for me to read and understand, so I began to enjoy the reading from front cover to back cover. About the same time we began attending Grace evangelical Free Church in Davenport Iowa, we lived in Bettendorf , part of what they called the Quad City. The Pastor Jim Anderson came to visit as Pastors do. I am sure he learned a lot more about me by the questions he asked than I knew about my self. I remember enjoying him and our conversation, he is a very humble easy to share with guy. Before he left he asked if I would like to do a bible study with him. I told him I just started reading and wanted to continue on my own until I had finished, then I would call him about a study. With the preaching, teaching, and reading on my own some things began to become more clear to me, not much at the beginning but some things. I especially was reminded what I did to become a Christian and what it meant to me at that

It took me 7  months to read the bible through, and my thirst for His truth grew as the months went along. When my reading was completed I told Pastor Jim I would like to take him up on his bible study offer. We spent the next 7 months studying the beatitudes and wherever they led us. This took about as long as it took me to read the whole bible.

  1. Phil, your devotions this month have been a blessing. What a testimony of God’s faithfulness!
The hounds of Heaven have been pursuing you & Faye and He has done a mighty work in you.
I just read today that Augustine attributed the change in his own heart to God’s relentless pursuit of him: “You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me; I drew in breath and now I pant for you.”
