Return to the Lord

Isaiah 55:7  Let the wicked forsake his way And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. Jeremiah 3:13  ‘Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the LORD  your God And have scattered your favors to the strangers under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,’ declares the LORD.

At the age of 32 I was promoted to the title of Sales Manager and moved the family to the Gary Indiana area. Several years later we moved to Crown Point Indiana. The sales force consisted of me and one sales man, me. Over a period of 10 ½ years and with lots of help the company grew about 32 times the size it was when we moved there. The company needed some one to take over the Evansville Indiana sales department and asked me to transfer there. It’s a long story but when the company started to go down hill because of some parent company bad decisions, I saw the handwriting on the wall and decided to leave. So after 5 years in the Evansville area I left, and became the sales manager for a company in Davenport Iowa. Everywhere we went we enjoyed the area and made many friends. All of the moves we made helped me grow in business and management skills, which God used later in many ways..

In 1983 Jeff came home from the University of Iowa and told his Mother an amazing story. At a Christian concert led by a musician named Joe English. Jeff became a believer, follower of Jesus, and was baptized in a lake in Wisconsin. Faye cried and Jeff thought she was upset and was concerned it would be a problem. She explained she was happy and told Jeff she became a believer when she was young. I came home and he told me the same story expecting me to be up set, but I was happy for him. He wanted to know why we were not in church and reading the bible, he was always able to ask tough questions. He challenged us to go to church and read the bible. He described the kind of church we should attend and let us know he was attending an Evangelical Free Church in Iowa City. I told Jeff I did not like King James English, it’s mixed up sentence structure confused me. He offered me his NIV translation and when I protested about taking his bible he said “no problem, I have five of them” Can you I imagine a Christian only six months and had 5 bibles. This was the beginning of our return to the Lord.

Another example of my backward life, I was supposed to help my son come to the Lord when he was young, but he helped me and Faye come back to the Lord when we were 47. Faye and I were now on the path God wanted us on, a whole new beginning.
