Keeping Pure

Psalm 119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your  word.

Psalm 119:11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.

How can we treasure God’s Word in our heart? First you have to want to, and if you haven’t been born again you won’t want to. If you really want to, you may be a strong enough willed person to do it on your own, but I don’t think there are many like that. One of the many benefits of participating in a group like the Navigator Two Seven small group series is the help, encouragement, and accountability, you have as a member of a group like theirs. The series is based on Colossians 2:7,  having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.

I am sure there are other small group programs like the Navigator’s but that was the only one we knew at the time. We were given the verses we were supposed to memorize in advance, but warned we should work mainly on the ones for the week we were in, but continue rehearsing all we have learned to that point. We were given a pack of small verse cards.  We would work on our verse memorization all week, then at the meeting we were assigned a partner we would quote our verses to, without looking at the card. We were warned not to start the next verse until we had the first one down pat. We had 12 verses to memorize during each 13 week study, except for 5 during the first 13 week period, a total of 65. We were told some people believed they could not memorize scripture, but in the past everyone that really wanted to did. Faye was one of those that said she would never be able to do it, but she did.

We are told to keep our way pure we had to do it according to God’s Word, and to do it that way we have to know what it says, again we have to want to. The passages and verse I memorized have kept coming to mind as I moved through life. They have helped me to be encouraged, encourage others, talk to the Lord, teach others, be assured of salvation, assured of answered prayer, assured of  forgiveness, and to defend my faith among other
