Fishers of men

Matthew 4:18-19 Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew  his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He *said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

2 Samuel 5:3  So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them before the LORD at Hebron; then they anointed David king over Israel.

No one ever knows who the Lord will use or how He will use them. King David was a boy shepherd, warrior hero, then King of all Israel.  History tells us his strengths, weaknesses, and how God used him then and still. No one but God would have picked David. Jesus picked all of his disciples, no other Jewish leader would have picked them for much of anything except, maybe to be a servant. Again, biblical history tells us of their faults and their strengths. God pursued me, caught me and then has used me, even though it has been hard to understand why. I am sure glad I answered the Spirit’s call to witness to Bud, Craig, and Scott, because not long after, Bud sold the company and I was looking for a Job. Even though I have been an inconsistent, sometimes unknowing participant in God’s work he used me and still is. Hope He does until he calls me home.

Tom Bussard is a kind of wandering Pastor, and at about 75 years, still is. He Has been on Navigator staff ever since he graduated from the University. He constantly looks for people to share his heart with, leads Small Groups of men, coed groups, works one on one with non believers and believers , Laymen, and Pastors. Many people have been mentored and discipled by Tom. Other good men have come to my life since Tom, but Tom was there at a crucial time for the start of my walk with Christ. I am thankful to Tom and look forward to seeing him where he belongs, with the Lord.

My Pastor Jim Anderson was another important piece of the puzzle worked in my life. Like Tom I owe much to Jim. He is truly one of those people that denied himself for the Lord and others. Jim has put much effort in to not only those with potential, but with everyone that wanted his help. Jim kept teaching and men kept leaving and becoming leaders at other churches. Jim would get discouraged until he finally decided this is what God wanted him to do, be a sending Pastor. Jim has Pastored two other churches that I know of until the day he became a Pastor of Pastors for The Evangelical Free Church.

Has the Holy Spirit called you? What was or is your answer?
