Psalm 139:13-16 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not Hidden from You. When I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;
At the age of 10 or 11, I did not know God well enough realize He made everything including me, I was His property, He owned Me. Before I was drawn to Him, and responsible enough to make my decision to receive Him, three life threatening things happened to me.
Disobeying my Mother, I along with my cousin and a friend, went to a local gravel pit full of water covered by ice. It was a fairly warm February day in Northern Indiana and I was appropriately dressed for it. It was fun running and sliding on the ice, and as children will, I had no fear of impending danger. I slid over an area of ice thinned by a spring and broke through. This frightened my cousin and friend so they ran away leaving me alone. I did not know how to swim at that time, but don’t think it would have made any difference. I kept going up and down trying to grab hold of the ice but it kept breaking. I discovered three Times up and down, then gone is a myth, I went up and down many times. Something told me to turn around and grab the ice where I fell in, I did and it held. In front of me about arms length was a stick frozen in the ice. I took hold of the stick and held on but I could not pull my self up. Something told me to raise my right leg up onto the ice and pull up that way, I did and rolled onto the ice. I was then told to roll away and not stand up until I was safely away from the thin ice, I did what I was told, then jumped on my bike and rode home. Grandmother Six said “God isn’t through with you yet.” Have you ever heard of any one getting out of a situation like I was in without help? I didn’t know then but I know now, God was my helper, and Grandmother was right.
Lightning struck just out side the window where I was sitting on a sofa, it broke the window, knocked me onto the floor, burned holes in the curtain behind me, burned the insulation off of the electric wires, blew the fuses out of the fuse box, and scared all of us silly. I saw sparks come down all around the house, my dog Smokey was on the porch and did not come home for three days. I don’t know the chronological order of this incident related to the above, but it had to be within a year afterwards.
The third thing was almost being hit by a car riding my bike to school, but I wasn’t and that is about all there is to tell about that. All the above happened within one year.
As a child I did not think much about all of this, but in later life as I became a believer, and was growing in Christ, I became aware and thankful He was protecting His property even before I thought much of Him.
Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.
