2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come. Galatians 6:15 For both circumcision and un circumcision mean nothing; what matters instead is a new creation.
I would be drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette while reading the bible, so even though I was being convicted about some things I wasn’t being convicted about the smoking and drinking that many Christians make a big fuss about. Without any body saying any thing to me about it, or even thinking about it much my self, I slowly quit over a several months period. It’s amazing how God takes some of our flesh problems away while leaving us with others to battle all of our lives. It is also amazing what can happen sometimes if people and their sins are left alone with God and his word. Some times. (not many) he takes it away as soon as we pray about it, and other times it is a long Process, and other times, it hasn’t happened yet.
1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
Ephesians 5:18 & 19. And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.
We become a new creature when we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, but that is just the beginning, we are supposed to grow in Christ, begin growing and continue to grow. I think by taking away my desire to smoke and drink the way He did, was to give me a small example of what he could do through me if I was willing to be filled with His spirit, to continue the growth of the new creature I am. There are 2 prerequisites for being filled with the Spirit.
1. Must be born again 2. Must want to be filled.
