When my grandson and his wife, Brandi, announced they were having their first child, the whole family…eight brothers, one sister, not to mention grandparents on both sides, were very excited to know there was going to be a baby in the family. Brandi and Dakota started equipping the nursery with everything a baby would need. Dakota’s brother, Tonka, spend some of his hard earned money from shoveling snow, to buy a teddy bear, a mobile for the crib and even some new born diapers!
In mid-February they went for a scheduled ultrasound and found they were having a little girl. However, they also were told the baby had a club foot, only one kidney and her head was too small suggesting possible water on the brain. The doctor told them the baby would probably not survive the nine months and she suggested they terminate the pregnancy.
An appointment was set up to see a specialist in another city the next day. I can’t even begin to describe the anguish the young couple and the families went through during those intervening hours before the new appointment. Fortunately for me, I had some reliable prayer warriors to help me try to accept God’s plan, whatever it might be. But it was a long day the next day waiting for a phone call to hear what the specialist would say.
That doctor found a baby who appeared to have possible minor problems but assured Brandi and Dakota they would have a healthy baby BOY!
I guess we’ll never know why that technician revealed such a devastating report, but it really doesn’t make any difference because God took the matter in His own hands and showed us we need to turn to Him and trust Him to answer our prayers for the good of all.
