Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
We check out the rush hour traffic reports especially if we have to get somewhere at the same time. We rush to the store to pick up some bargains. Seems like everyone is rushing somewhere. It is a “hurry up” world we live in. Our schedules are hectic trying to accomplish everything on our list for the day. We meet ourselves coming and going. No time to sit and reflect. Is this the best way to live?
Someone gave me a book entitled “Gifts from my Front Porch” and this is an excerpt from it:
“There is so much to do around the house. There are the two upstairs bedrooms to paint, the garden needs to be weeded, three loads of laundry wait patiently, the gutters must be cleared of leaves, and I haven’t vacuumed in two weeks.”
“My front porch invites me to put off the chores a little bit longer. The world won’t end because I have gutters to clear. I ease gratefully into the rocker on the porch and listen to the wind chimes singing softly in the breeze. The air is perfumed with the scent of jasmine growing over the porch. As I sit rocking gently, I hear God’s voice deep within my heart—“There is time for everything. Be still and listen. I will tell you of My great love for you.”
What a joy to just be still. Stop and smell the roses. Just be still and listen and know that He is God.
O God, help me to be still and know Your love. Amen
