Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
This is a spiritual vitamin that keeps things in priority and proper prospective in our lives. Makes for a very healthy spiritual life. Notice the word “first”. God comes first. His kingdom comes first. His work comes first. His message comes first. If we get this in the correct order, all others things will fall into place or “added unto you”.
For what do we seek? Fame? Fortune? Health? Possessions? Comfortable life? Personal satisfaction? On and on we go, but the verse says, “but seek first” the kingdom of God. God’s will. God’s ministry. God’s work. God’s provisions. God’s priorities. God’s teaching. We could go on, but you get the picture. It is like we say, “I will be glad to do what You want, God, as long as you don’t interfere with my plans.
Can we really learn to “seek first” the kingdom of God? Can we really be yielded to God and His will? Can we really trust Him to go with us through all the hard times as well as the good? Can we learn more of Him daily? Can we love Him?
Is God at work in our lives? In our homes? In our neighborhoods? In our church? In the activities we are part of? Will there be changes if we “seek first” the kingdom of God? Will we get a new look at God and His work here on earth? Will there be a greater hunger for the Word of God? If the answer to these questions is yes, then let us swallow “seek first” and follow God.
