“Be Peaceful”

2 Thessalonians 5:13 “Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.  Live in peace with each other.”

This is a spiritual vitamin we would all like to have.  Troubles in the home, troubles in the school, troubles in the workplace, troubles in government, troubles in the country,  troubles in the whole world and even troubles in the church.  How do we get the peace?

Maybe our efforts at self-esteem have gone too far.  We have lifted ourselves up much higher than we ought.  We think we are the right one.  Our way is the only way.  Everyone must conform to our ways.  Romans 12:3 says we ought not to think more highly of ourselves than we ought but rather think with sober judgment according to the measure of faith God has given us since we are all members of one body.  Our verse tells us to hold in highest regard those who are serving the Lord because of their work. No more preacher or Christian worker for lunch.  Obeying this will certainly bring some peace instead of church splits.   What kind of example do we set for our children when we do not hold in highest regard God’s servants..

Is God saying to us that since we are all different we can keep peace among ourselves by yielding to someone else’s idea or maybe let them lead  the project.  The verses before this in Romans 12 beseech us to be a living sacrifice to God and let Him lead and fit us together.  Peace comes from God and the secret to this spiritual vitamin is yielding and allow God to bring about peace.  His way is ALWAYS the best way.  There will never be peace until God is in control and we give Him His rightful place in our lives.  Proverbs 16:7 “When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies live at peace with him.”  Wow!  Even peace with our enemies is possible.

When the Bible mentions “peace”, it means much more than a sense of calm.  It refers to a sense of utter wellness.   May we know this “peace”.
