Another tough vitamin we need to consider is “Be Obedient”. Acts 5:29 says ‘We must obey God rather than men.” This was uttered by Peter and the other apostles after they were preaching about Jesus and His death on the cross for the payment of our sins. The government and religious rulers at that time did not want the gospel preached. After all, people were believing in and accepting Jesus as their Savior. Their lives were changing and they were following Jesus’ teaching.
This spiritual vitamin is for all. We are all to obey God first of all. Children are to obey their parents. We are to obey those in authority over us. Servants are to obey their masters. Wives are to obey their husbands. We are all to obey the truth.
Obedience is easy when we agree with it. Not so easy when it goes against what we want. Perhaps even more difficult when God asks us to do something that is out of our comfort zone. We question why and say no. If yesterday’s vitamin of submission takes hold, then obedience is right behind. They work hand in hand to enrich our spiritual lives.
King Saul learned this hard lesson when he did not obey. He made his own decision to spare the king and some of the animals when he was told to utterly destroy them all. His reason was that they would use these animals to offer to the Lord. The answer was “Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” I Samuel 15:22. Saul refused to take this spiritual vitamin and as a result he lost the kingdom and God’s blessings.
Trust and obey for there is no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
