2 Corinthians 8:21 “Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
At a recent shuffleboard tournament, a rumor got started and went through the shufflers. Lunch is always provided for the shufflers each day of the tournament. The second day the shufflers that did not lose the day before were gathered to finish the playoffs at 9 am. News was spreading that someone stole 5 dozen hot dog buns because they were missing and they could not find them anywhere. First of all, who would steal hot dog buns? Speculation began as to how and why and who. Perhaps it was a hungry homeless person. There was no evidence of a break in so it must have been local. But if they had locked up the building then how did they get in. The reasoning dwindled down to the fact it must have been someone with a key. Now, they are narrowing down the suspects. Meanwhile everyone at the tournament is talking and speculating about this incident. They were getting ready to start making accusations. At about 10:30 the lady in charge of the luncheon arrived. Mystery was solved. There were not 5 dozen hot dog buns. She did not buy that many as they would not be needed the second day.
Provide things honest. No one checked before the accusation went out. Facts were not there. Oh, how often do we do that? Assume we know the truth but do not have all the facts. How many reputations have been tarnished because honesty was not provided. How many church splits came about because of repeating that which is not true? How many ministries for God have been hurt because of false rumors, statements and criticisms? We don’t want to be guilty of being part of anything false or dishonest. Let’s apply this spiritual vitamin to our lives daily that we might not be guilty before God or man. Grab that glass of water and swallow this needed vitamin quickly.
I Timothy tells us to pray for all men everywhere that we may lead quiet and peaceable lives in all godliness and honesty.
