Many years ago, I read a book entitled “How Big is Your God?”  It challenged and inspired me.  It came to my mind again and I thought a lot about what I had read.

I look at today’s society and the evil that permeates our culture.  I often want to wring my hands and think all is lost.  Where is my trust in the God that I worship and call my own? Could it be that I have lost sight of the majesty, the mighty power, the awesome strength of God almighty?

Remember the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as told in Daniel, Chapter 3?  King Nebuchadnezzar demanded that they worship his golden image.  When they refused, he ordered that they be cast into the fiery furnace.  They replied, “If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning  fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”  (verses 17 & 18)  The three Hebrew men knew that God is able to do anything!

Just think of all of the instances in the Bible where God showed His power!  We could write pages of the ways God demonstrated His strength, power, and might!  God spoke and created our world from nothing….a void until He spoke it into existence.  He created us in His image from the dust of the ground.  He sent His only Son into our world to die on Calvary to save us from eternal punishment.  Only God could do that!

When we face trials and troubles; do we try to solve the problems ourselves?  Do we look to somebody else to rescue us?  Why do we do that when we can go to the powerful God who can take care of us?  I John 4:4b: “because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

“Behold, I Am the Lord, the God of all flesh.  Is there anything too hard for me?”  Jeremiah 32:27.  And,  in Matthew 19:26: “ But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

God is bigger than all of my problems!  How big is your God?

Hank Snow penned this song:

How big is God, how big and wide His vast domain

To try to tell these lips can only start

He’s big enough to rule the mighty universe

Yet small enough to live within my heart.
