The 13th Chapter of I Corinthians concludes with these words: “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is loveâ€.Â
Frederick M. Lehman wrote the song, The Love of God. These words are from that song:†The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tellâ€. An anonymous prisoner wrote this last verse on the wall of his cell: “Could we with ink the ocean fill And were the skies of parchment made, were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above Would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to skyâ€.
I cannot begin to explain God’s love. My Webster’s dictionary contains 10 definitions for love. The last one is: (a) God’s benevolent concern for mankind (b) man’s devout attachment to God. That doesn’t even begin to describe the wonderful, amazing Love that God has for us!
God created us. He could have made us like pawns on a chessboard that he could maneuver at His will. But, He created us in His image! After the sin in the Garden of Eden, mankind became so corrupt that God chose to destroy everyone except Noah and His family. Finally, when sin again became rampant in the world, God chose to send us a Savior. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting lifeâ€. John 3:16. There have been books written, poems, songs, and sermons penned about the love of God. Yet, it remains a mystery that God loves us!
Romans Chapter 8 has always been one of my favorite passages of Scripture. I close these devotions with Verses 37-39.Â
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.â€
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lordâ€
Oh, the wonderful, marvelous, amazing love of God!
