“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”
There is so much depth in the Vine and the Branch that we could never begin to contemplate all of it but as I read the following it became very clear the purpose of each entity; the vine is the glory of the husbandman; the branch is the glory of the vine; the fruit is the glory of the branch. If the branch bring not forth fruit, there is no glory or worth in it; it is an offense and a hindrance; the husbandman takes it away. The one reason for the existence of a branch, the one mark of being a true branch of the heavenly Vine, the one condition of being allowed by the divine Husbandman to share the life of the Vine is bearing fruit.
Now we see the significance of the divine privilege we have as children of God for being the branch, it is for the salvation of men. So the necessity of the pruning becomes evident, so that we may bear much fruit! So we must ask ourselves is there anything in our life that would obstruct or deter the working of the Vine to bring forth much fruit?
Pruning must take place in our hearts, lives and the example we set before the lost and dying world or we are of no value to the whole purpose of the Vine, Jesus, who works all things through us by His Holy Spirit. The knowledge of and acceptance of the life of the Holy Spirit living within us is necessary for us to live a life of obedience as we grow and mature in our faith and walk with our Lord!
Maturity takes place as we abide in the Vine, without this time alone with Jesus the Holy Spirit cannot impart to us His wisdom to understand the deep truths of God’s Holy Word. I am learning as I depend upon His wisdom and guidance; life has much more meaning to it and the complexities become less strenuous as the sap from the Vine flows through me to supply all that I need in life. We are chosen vessels by God to accomplish His divine purposes!
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
