The Season of Sharing

Let me share with you a story I read recently in a publication of the Gideons International.

A nurse named Elizabeth found herself in deep despair.  She sat down at her desk and wrote three notes – one to the doctor, one to the police, and one to the person who would find her.

She took out a gun, cocked it, and placed it in her mouth.  But, out of the corner of her eye she saw a white New Testament that two faithful women with The Gideons Auxiliary had given her.  She put the gun down, opened the New Testament and asked herself,   “Is there anything in this little book that can give me hope?”

Yes, there was hope for Elizabeth, and she found it in Jesus Christ!

How important is it for us to be faithfully sharing God’s love in every season of life – not just during the Christmas season when we celebrate His coming? Being ready to share verbally with anyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you (I Peter 3:15) is one way of spreading the message.  Other ways might include giving out, or leaving in significant places, tracts and Bibles (as the Gideons do), doing acts of relief and kindness in His name, as well as living a life that reflects His character and love through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.  If you are open and listening, God may give you many unique opportunities you never imagined you could have.

The Scripture challenges us to “Be ready in season and out of season; convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching…” (II Tim. 4:2)

Paul admonishes us, “…and let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” (Galations 6:9)

A reminder we should always keep in mind to encourage us is found in Isaiah 55:11,  “…so shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” What a promise for those whom the Lord of the harvest has sent to labor in His fields!
