Trust

From the time we were toddlers we were striving to be independent. Have you ever tried to help a youngster do something and hear him say “I can do it myself”? As they grow older we do try to teach them to be independent, to learn to do things on their own and to be responsible. However, the drive to “do it my way” may be all prevailing and follow them into adulthood. But, unfortunately, “my way” may not be the best way and eventually we have to learn to depend on our Lord Jesus to show us the right way. The Bible tells us in many ways to trust Him.

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” NIV

Psalms 37:5 “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this; He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” NIV Psalm 20:7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” NIV

We seem to trust God with our eternal salvation, but do we trust Him daily in our lives? In everything we do we should look to Jesus and do it His way. In Romans 8:28 Paul tells us “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him…” NIV

Eventually, perhaps after a few mistakes or some poor decisions on our part, we have to come to the realization that God’s way is the best way. That realization comes with faith. Trust and faith go hand in hand. Trust is confidence in a thing or a person. Through our faith we can trust in something or someone. To trust in the Lord, we must have faith in Him. The Scriptures are full of stories of people who trusted the Lord through their faith. The writer of Hebrews reminds us of the faith of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Mary and many more. Hebrews 11:6 says “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists (faith) and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” NIV

Which brings us to Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” NIV and Revelations 3:20 “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” NIV

We can open the door to these promises God has given to us through faithful prayer and He will deliver to all our needs.

TRUST HIM.
