Have you ever asked yourself the question…â€How strong is my faith? Is it strong enough to carry me through tough times?â€
I see people suffering during cancer treatments, losing a loved one in an accident, one of those mass shootings or a disaster in nature and so many other tragedies for people to experience. How can we face tragedy in our lives and survive with our faith intact?
I have seen people going through chemotherapy witnessing to the people around them, I have seen people speaking to groups about how God helped them through some misfortune, and we see stories about people who have survived natural disasters witnessing “God is good.â€
I ask myself “Is my faith strong enough?†I don’t believe we will know the answer until the time comes when we have to face a tragedy in our lives.
But if I go to the Bible for the answer to the question, I find encouragement in what God’s Word tells me. Allow me to share a few Scriptures with you: (All quotes are from NIV)
Ephesians 6:10-11 “Put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground. Stand firm then with the belt of truth…the breastplate of righteousness and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.†Also: “the shield of faith…the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. Be strong in the Lord and his mighty power.â€
Deuteronomy 31:6-8 “Be strong and courageous… Do not be afraid…He will never forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.â€
Mark: 23 “Everything is possible for him who believes.â€
Revelation 3:10 “Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will keep you from the hour of trial…â€
I don’t doubt God’s promise of my salvation because the Word tells me I will have everlasting life. The Word also tells me I can rely on God in times of trouble because he will not forsake me.
When I believe, truly believe in my heart what God’s Word tells me, why should I doubt my faith in a tragedy? I can rely on his strength and his mercy and compassion.
I will pray daily to keep him close to me and know that he will keep me strong in whatever I may have to face. Thank you, Jesus.
