“Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” Ephesians 5:17-21
We have taken sin too lightly these days. I have seen churches for years starting to justify or explain away our sin. It seems we have just accepted that we will all sin so we better not confront others about theirs because they may bring up ours. It kind of reminds me of the Cold War with Russia. You press the button to destroy me, I will press the button to destroy you. This is a Pastor’s nightmare. How can you battle the enemy when your army is ready to fight among themselves?
More and more I observe on any Sunday morning in the average church people are walking around on their guard. I cannot mess up here because people will see I am not perfect. They are so worried that people will look down on them or judge them that they find any piece of dirt on everyone around them just in case they are confronted. If you have ever been in the situation of confronting them it is amazing at how fast they bring up what other people are doing. Is this the way our churches should be? Of course not! This is so far away from what the Bible teaches. We need to confront our sin so we do not confront others improperly.
