And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27 ESV
With so many idols thrown at us each day how do we keep from falling into the trap of idolatry? It is almost impossible for us to wake up and not struggle with idolatry at some point during our day. We have been brainwashed into believing that it is all about number one. Unfortunately this leads to a lifestyle that always has a void we are trying to fill.
For years I heard that for a diet to succeed you have to plan the day out ahead of time. Even the night before. Prepare your meals and snacks. This way you will not be tempted to grab the wrong things. In the last few months I have found this to be very true both in diet and in my spiritual life. I have to prepare my heart each day to lay down my desires and pick up the Lord’s will for my life. The way to keep ourselves from idolatry is to love the Lord with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself. If we take the time to plan out our day loving God and loving others we have a better chance not to fall into the trap of idolatry.
