“But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the Lord, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard; Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.” 2 Kings 22:18-19
When King Josiah had heard they were not doing the things the Lord had told them he tore his clothes and wept before the Lord. Now I am not saying that we should go tear our clothes when we see our sin but we should feel the same uncomfortable feeling. We have placed something or someone before our God. There should be nothing come between us and the Lord. King Josiah recognized his sin, he owned up to it and then asked forgiveness of it. Once King Josiah asked forgiveness of his sin he destroyed the idols. If we are guilty of idolatry we need to do as Josiah did. Repent and get rid of our sin.
