Inside/Outside #7

Luke 6:43-45

43 “No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers. 45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

Today, as we are now well on our way in celebration of our 60th wedding anniversary, we shall look even deeper into our devotional study, Inside/Outside.

Paul, to the Romans declares that which is true for all of us. There is none righteous…. none who understands…none who seeks for God….none who does good….they have become useless…their throat is an open grave…with their tongues they keep deceiving…The poison of asps is under their lips…whose mount is full of cursing and bitterness…their feet are swift to shed blood…destruction and misery are in their paths…the path of peace have they not known….Romans 3:10-17

This portrait is a terribly effaced image of that which at the beginning, and there was a beginning, “…God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good….”

The purpose of God, in the person and work of His only begotten Son, desires to make out of the mess I was in a person who can think and feel and act in a way that restores the marred and messed up person which I became when thrust out of the Garden of Eden.

Because of His grace and mercy, I can now allow my mind to dwell upon things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good repute and other things which are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 I was a bad tree, only capable of bearing bad fruit but now by the gracious transplanting process of God I can yield the good fruits of the Holy Spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Until we meet again, have a Spirit filled fruitful day or ending one which had been the product of being a good tree bearing good fruit.
