Inside/Outside #4

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Proverbs 4:23

It is hopeful that you are among those who take a continuing look at the Daily Devotions. If that is the case with you, we are now into day number 4 of the 30days of September. In setting the theme for the month we are looking at the inside which is basic, for it leads to that which is going to be on the outside.

Yesterday, from the opening chapter of Romans we noted those verses in which were listed21 negative characteristics which are on the inside and find a way to work their way and will to the outside and from these only a new mind and heart will enable you to be delivered. We should want to rise above these. Some decades ago, a person, who at this time is anonymous to me, said in the course of his teaching: “If you don’t feel and act the way you would like to, start thinking and feeling the way you would like to and soon you will find yourself acting the way you are thinking and feeling.” The enabler is the Lord who at the point of  redemption and renewal puts a ‘new Spirit” within us. Eph. 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; Col 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and Eph. 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. {true…: or, holiness of truth} Col 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

As these devotions for this day conclude, I will again turn your thoughts toward the ‘works of the flesh’ on the inside, from which we must resist and desist, so that the ‘fruits of the Spirit’ will become obvious on the outside.

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness,
revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God”

Putting our past two days together, along with the Scriptures we have identified, by the “..holy men of God..” ..who “spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit”. 2 Peter 1:21, 38 of the grossest kind of behavioral traits which are in the inside and have the potential of working their way to the outside.  We do need help and God is our ‘helper inside’.
